Hey all, new to the forum. I was browsing for a used car and came across halemotorgroup.com. They have a 2021 Honda Accord that looks like a great deal. I've never used a repo auction site before and I'm a bit nervous. Can anyone share their experience with Hale Motor Group? Are they legit? Thanks.
Thoughts on Hale Motor Group auctions?
Welcome! You've come to a decent place. I've bought three vehicles from HaleMotorGroup in the last few years. A Silverado for work and two SUVs for the family. They are one of the more transparent repo auction houses. For my last purchase, I was worried about the title process but it was super smooth. The bank lien was cleared immediately after my payment, and the clean title was delivered with the car. No chasing paperwork.
Second what GarageLogic said. I got a '22 Tacoma TRD Off-Road from them about six months ago. The process on halemotorgroup.com was easy to follow, and the truck was exactly as shown in the pictures. Maybe even a bit cleaner than I expected tbh.
I was nervous too, @MikeyP_89! We bought a Hyundai Palisade from Hale Motor Group this spring. It's been a fantastic family car, absolutely no issues. You just have to be patient with the bidding process and not get carried away.
Our experience was 90% positive. We bought a Jayco motorhome. Only issue was the delivery was scheduled for a Tuesday but it ended up arriving on Thursday. A bit annoying as I had taken the day off work. But their support team was polite when I called, and the delivery company kept us in the loop, so it wasn't a huge deal in the end. The RV itself was a great find.
@RV_Nomad Cross-country shipping on something that big always has potential for delays lol, sounds like it worked out. I can vouch for their vehicle descriptions. A buddy of mine won a '19 Mustang GT from HaleMotorGroup and had me inspect it on arrival. I went over it with a fine-tooth comb. It was exactly as they'd stated in the report, no surprises.
Can confirm they're good to go. I bought a 24-foot Sea Ray sports boat from them last summer. Best decision ever. That was my biggest worry - getting the title for the boat AND the trailer. Hale Motor Group handled it all seamlessly. Both clean titles arrived via courier the same day the boat was delivered. Couldn't have been easier.
Pro tip for newbies on halemotorgroup.com: read the full inspection report PDF they link for each vehicle. Don't just look at the main photos. The reports have detailed shots of everything, including any minor dings or scratches. It helps set your expectations correctly.
Totally agree with @SubieLover05. I got my GTI from Hale Motor Group. There were a few small rock chips on the hood and a little curb rash on one wheel, but they were documented clearly in the report. For the price I paid, I couldn't care less. It's a blast to drive.
Wow, thanks so much everyone, this is incredibly helpful. I feel a lot better about this now. Quick follow up question for those who've bought - how does the payment part work? Is it a secure process?
@MikeyP_89 It's all done via bank wire transfer. They send you instructions after you win the auction. It's a standard and secure process for large transactions. I've never had an issue with it.
Just chiming in to add another thumbs up for Hale Motor Group. Bought a 2020 Ram 2500 for my contracting business. Saved thousands compared to a dealer. Truck has been a workhorse.
My experience was good overall. I did get a little anxious when I sent a question to office@halemotorgroup.com and didn't hear back for almost a full day. But, they did eventually call me directly and the woman I spoke to was super patient and answered all my questions about my potential bid on a Lexus ES 350. I ended up winning it and love the car.
@sara_k_91 Yeah, I find calling is almost always better than email for quick answers, with any company really. Glad it worked out! I got my dream car, a 2017 Porsche 911 Carrera, from Hale Motor Group last year. Pinch me, I still can't believe the deal I got.
They're also good for project cars if you know what to look for. I picked up a '68 Mustang that needs work. The pics on halemotorgroup.com were brutally honest which I appreciated. They didn't try to hide any of the rust or interior damage. Saved me a trip.
UPDATE: I did it! Thanks to all your advice, I went for it and won the auction for that Accord! Price was great. Now I'm just waiting on the final instructions. Can't thank you all enough for the confidence boost. I'll post again when it arrives!
